Oscar Hedrich Chilton Times September 24, 1910

Oscar Hedrich, who died suddenly on Tuesday of last week from heart failure while at work on his farm, and a notice of which was given is last week's Times, was born July 3, 1852, at Stanau, Saxon, Weimar, Germany.

He emigrated with his parents to America the fall of the same year, coming in an old style sailing ship, which required nine weeks to make the voyage. They landed in New York Dec. 12, 1852, and immediately set out for Northampton, Pa., where they resided for a little over two years and then went to Wisconsin, settling in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan County.

In the spring of 1869 they moved to Rantoul, Calumet County, where the deceased branched out for himself and settled on a farm in the then wilderness, remaining on the same until his death. Mr. Hedrich was a very hardworking and thrifty farmer and when taken away left his family a beautiful home and in comfortable circumstances.

He was recognized as one of the substantial men of his town, sound of judgment and just in his dealings with everyone. No man in Rantoul was more highly esteemed than Mr. Hedrich and his sudden death is deeply deplored wherever he was known.

The funeral which was a large one, took place from the Lutheran church in Rantoul, of which he had always been a beloved member, Rev. P. Wichmann having charge of the services and interment being made in the Lutheran cemetery.

The deceased is survived by a widow, three sons and five daughters, three of the latter being married, Mmes. Henry Gruett, John Paulsen of Rantoul and Henry Sonnabend of Sherwood. He is also survived by three brothers, Louis of Chicago, Henry of Abbotsford and Edwin of Green Bay, and three sisters, Mmes. Ernst Dassler of Cleveland, Wis., M. Martienssen of Appleton, and Fred Schwalbe of Eaton.
