Statesboro, Ga. - Dr. James H. Sikes Jr., age 84, died Monday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Manassas, Ga., and grew up on the family farm in Bellville, Ga. He graduated from Auburn Uniersity Veterinarian School in 1945 and worked with the United States Department of Agriculture for 33 years. He also worked with the Georgia Department of Agriculture for 17 years before retiring in 1992. Dr. Sikes was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger years and he loved his Auburn Tigers. He was a member of the Statesboro First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene A. Sikes.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Denise Sikes of Nashville, Tenn., Michael and Julie SIkes of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian Sikes of Statesboro; six grandchildren, Lauren Sikes of New York, Robert Sikes of Birmingham, Travis Sikes of Tuscaloosa, Ellie Sikes of New York, Whitney Sikes of Charlotte and Robin Sikes of Charlotte; and one brother-in-law, Bill Addy of Covina, Calif.

The graveside service and burial will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Bulloch Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Thad Harvey officiating.

Hodges-Turner Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
