PORTAL, Ga. - Mr. Gary Spence Baird, age 55, died on Wednesday at his residence. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1972 graduate of Buckhead Academy. He joined the Local 150 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union in 1976 and had recently received his 32-year pin. He was a member of the Alee Temple Shriners and the Masonic Lodge of Statesboro. Mr. Baird was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, C.B. Baird; a brother, Belton Baird; and a grandson, Kieren Ashley Baird.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Sue Allen Baird of Portal; a daughter, Alicia Baird of Swainsboro, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Ashley and Christy Baird of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Robbie Baird, all of Statesboro; his mother, Virginia Baird of Portal; a brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Deborah Baird of Eatonton, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Christy and Eddie Powell of Statesboro; a sister, Marcia Baird of Swainsboro; a sister-in-law, Nancy Baird of Twin City; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carmen and Ronnie Hopkins; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bert and Asa Garret of Swainsboro; a brother-in law and sister-in-law, Ray and Ellen Allen of Swainsboro; a sister-in-law, Diane Donaldson of Plymouth, Minn.; a granddaughter, Ryley Baird; a grandson, Johnny Baird; and a step grandson, Aubrey; and a step granddaughter, Keely; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Gay officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Local 150 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
