LeRoy H. Wirsing of Huntley Services for Mr. LeRoy H. Wirsing, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. today, at the First Congregational Church, 11628 E. Main St.,, Huntley, with the Rev. Dr. Walter I. Thyng officiating. Burial will be in Marengo City Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley. Born Nov. 27, 1916, on the family farm in Coral Township, the son of Alonzo and Lily (nee Meyer) Wirsing, he passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at home. LeRoy married Irene E. Kolberg on Sept. 21, 1940, in St. Charles, and then served in the Navy during World War II. Following his service, he returned to farm in the Hampshire and Harmony area and later worked in the excavating business for several years. LeRoy operated the Parkside Tap for nearly 10 years and retired as maintenance director of the Huntley Park District. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, horseshoes and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley, the American Legion Post 673 of Huntley and a former member of the Harvard Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Irene; grandchildren, Jeff Peterson of Huntley, Jodi (Lynn) Grant of Cary and Jay Peterson of Kenosha, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Matthew Grant; sister, Aletha (Bill) Seiler of Huntley; brother, James "Pat" Wirsing of St. Germaine, Wis.; and his caregiver, Juri Kakstovs. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patricia A. Peterson on June 8, 2002; son-in-law, Wayne Peterson on Nov. 16, 2001; and sister, Phyllis Eickstedt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be directed to First Congregational Church. For information‚ (847) 669-5111.
