Nellie was predeceased by her loving husband, Michael "Coach" R. Sanchez; sister Reina Alcaraz; sister Grace Villars. She is survived by her brother Robert Rivera; daughter, Lisa Brown and husband Michael; daughter, Linda Katz and husband Daryl; granddaughter Blake Lynn Katz.
Nellie was born to Tillie and Charles Rivera in Belen, New Mexico. During early childhood, she and her family of two sisters and brother moved to Barstow, California where her father worked at MCLB Barstow.
Nellie met Michael Sanchez in junior high and married him after high school. Nellie went on to raise her daughters as a full-time housewife, while Michael worked at Santa Fe (BNSF). Throughout the years, both Nellie and Michael worked hard to maintain a loving home for their daughters.
In the early years of raising her daughters, Nellie opened her home to her niece and nephew, Cindy Klein and James Alcaraz, and loved them like her own when her sister, Reina, died at an early age. Nellie was a keystone to her family and carried an indelible reputation with family and friends. She was known to her extended family of nieces and nephews as "Auntie Nellie".
Nellia was able to travel internationally during Michael's retirement years, places which included: Central America, Italy, and the Caribbean. She enjoyed taking spontaneous road trips to her childhood town of Belen, to visit with extended family.
Nellie will be missed for now, but we will meet again in Heaven. Nellie was laid to rest next to her husband at Mountain View Memorial Park on January 23, 2013.
