Captain Higdon was the commander of Company E, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) at the time of his death on Thursday, May 21, 1970. He was KIA on Fire Support Base Bastogne (Thua Thien Province) during a mortar attack. The report received at the company orderly (if memory serves me correctly) was that he was the victim of a single mortar round lobbed onto the firebase by the enemy.
