Captain Higdon was 25 at the time of his death, being born on September 20th, 1944, in Monroe County, Alabama. This was his second tour in Vietnam, the first having been served with the 1st Cavalry Division. He had arrived in-country for this tour on February 13th, 1970.
Captain Higdon was a 1962 graduate of Powell High School, Knoxville, TN, and attended Middle Tennessee State University and Carson-Newman College. He was survived by his wife Sandra Kay (Golden), three children, Leonard, Melissa, and Charles, his parents Leonard and Nettie Higdon, one sister, Bonnie (Higdon) Atkins, and two brothers, Charles P. and Walter Q. Higdon.
