PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU – Hazel Rasmussen Robertson Townsend, 96, died Jan. 24, 2013. She was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Hitchcock) Rasmussen.

Hazel graduated from New England Baptist Hospital, Boston, as a registered nurse. She married Bertrand N. Robertson in November 1936. He passed away June 26, 1943. She married Edward H. Townsend, who was a successful farmer, in May 1948. Hazel had been a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle, since 1972, charter member and officer of Caribou Lioness Club, past president Ladies Division Caribou Country Club, and Caribou Choral Society for many years. Hazel was an avid bridge player and made many new friends playing bridge.

She is survived by a niece, Shirley R. Morris of Florenceville, New Brunswick; a stepdaughter, Linda T. Soucier and her husband, Danny, of Caribou; a special cousin, Carol (Hitchcock) Fitzherbert and her husband, Mel, of Presque Isle; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her two husbands; her son, Timothy Elwood Townsend, in December 1989; two brothers, Lyle and Elwood Rasmussen; and a sister, Eula Scott.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou. (Bangor Daily News posted 1/25/2013)
