Bernard Vogt Chilton Times April 6, 1912

On Tuesday morning, April 2nd, Bernard Vogt, one of the highly respected and prominent citizens of the town of Charlestown, died at this home, near this city after a lingering illness, at the age of sixty-four years.

The deceased was born at Westphalen, Germany, Dec. 28, 1847 and in 1851 accompanied his parents to the United States. They came direct to Wisconsin and settling in the undeveloped town of Forest, Fond du Lac County, where they remained until 1873 when they moved to the town of Brothertown and purchased a farm near Jericho. Mr. Vogt was a hard working, industrious farmer and it was only a short time before he was the owner of a good farm of his own. He was a good manager and succeeded in accumulating a goodly share of the world's goods.

In May 1886 he was married to Miss Katherine Thelen and he was always attentive to his wife and family giving them all the comforts of a good home. In the seventies when the Holy Trinity church was erected he took an active part in the work and cut the first timber used in the construction of the building In 1907 he disposed of the farm in Brothertown and purchased the Kroehnke farm adjacent to this city.

Some ten years ago his health began to fail and for the past five years he had suffered from diabetes and later from heart trouble. Last week an abscess formed on his side and on Friday Dr. Victor Marshall of Appleton was called in consultation with Dr. Rathert. Upon examination they found Mr. Vogt suffering from a gangrenous appendix and the only chance to prolong his life was an operation. The operation was successful but death followed Tuesday from heart trouble.

He is survived by a widow, one son, Frank and a daughter, Miss Julia, two brothers, August of this city and Joseph of Brothertown and two sisters, Mmes. Wm Koch and Henry Nett of Brothertown.

The funeral was held from St. Mary's church with interment in the St. Mary's cemetery.
