Mrs. Mary A. Patterson
Mary A. McCutchan, daughter of Robert and Mary McCutchan, was born 7 June 1842, in Adams county, Ohio. In 1848, she with her parents, brothers and sisters, moved to Park county, Indiana. In 1853 they moved to McDonough county, Illinois. While living there the mother died and in November 1854, Robert McCutchan brought his children to their new home in Mercer county on the farm now known as the Patterson farm.

On 12 November 1872 she was united in marriage to William M. Patterson and remained in the old home. Mrs. Patterson’s early church training was received in the Associate church, of which her father was a member. It was located on a lot adjoining the home farm. At the age of seventeen years she joined this church, which was then known as the North Henderson United Presbyterian church, and continued a member until her death.

Four children were born to William and Mary Patterson. The two youngest, twins, died at the ages respectively of six months and fourteen years. Her husband, William Patterson, died 29 October 1907. She, with the two remaining children, lived in the home until her death 30 October 1925, at the age of 83 years, four months and 23 days, being the oldest member of the North Henderson United Presbyterian United Presbyterian congregation.

She leaves to mourn her death a son, Melancthan Nevin; a daughter, Ada Myrtle; one sister, Mrs. Martha McClelland; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Patterson was one of a family of eleven children. Three sisters and six brothers have preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, 2 November 1925, at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Reverend Gilbert O. Miller of Seaton, assisted by Reverend Kline of Norwood, and Reverend Davis of Alexis. The music was furnished by Mrs. John McCutchan and Mrs. Arthur Bell.

Pall bearers were Robert Miller, Frank McCutchan, Clarence McClelland, William Stevenson, William Keating and Elmer Brownlee.

Interment was made on the family lot in the Norwood cemetery.
