Geneva Lucille Hackney
Sep. 18, 1928 - Jan. 23, 2013

Geneva Lucille Hackney was born on Sept. 18, 1928, to George and Etna Hackney in Roosevelt, Okla. She was the second child of seven and was the only daughter. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946 and then attended the University of Oklahoma. There she met a student, Jack Langford, who was just home from the Navy after World War II. They were soon married and over the next two decades their family grew to include six children: five sons and a daughter. The Langford family moved to Placerville in 1961 and established their deepest roots in El Dorado County.

Geneva loved her family. She loved her brothers to the end and never lost her ties to Oklahoma. She loved her children and devoted herself to being a mother and homemaker. She always took her kids to church. She taught them the value of hard work and integrity. She went to work as an Eligibility Worker with Social Services when her children grew older. Her career lasted for more than 20 years in three counties in California and also in Oklahoma. She spent some of her retirement years in Nevada and Arizona, but she returned to El Dorado County with her husband Earle Bagley and lived her final years in and around Placerville. After a year of struggling with congestive heart failure she passed peacefully on Jan. 23, 2013, at her home at Eskaton Lodge in Cameron Park.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Langford and Earle Bagley; four of her brothers, Thomas, Joe, Gerald and Rex Hackney; and one daughter-in-law, Becky Langford. She is survived by two brothers, Mervyn Hackney and Ray Hackney (Martha); her five sons, Rob (Shara) Langford, Rich (Mary Gail) Langford, Cliff Langford, Bill (Marla) Langford and Ralph (Ramona) Langford; and her daughter, Cindi Zitzelberger. She was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren surviving her as well.

A graveside service is planned for Jan. 30 at 1 p.m., at Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placerville, Calif. There will be an opportunity for viewing at the Chapel of the Pines from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Online condolences may be posted at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
