Born Nov. 23, 1916, in Mingo County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Michael Gilman and Minnie Ooten Burks. She was among the first three policewomen in the Lynchburg Police Department. She was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church and Campbell County Senior Center.
Surviving is her son, R.M. "Buzzy" Sharp of Princeton, W.Va.; and daughter, Sue S. Bryant of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel with the Rev. David Breckenridge officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. today.
