Gertrude Brice, 87, of Altus died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Altus.

She was a homemaker.

She was the eight child born to Frank E. "James" Chapman and Carrie Cook Chapman on July 26, 1923 in Red Oak, Ellis County, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jamin R. Brice; and a grandson, Michael E. Mainard.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ozark Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Kendell Ross officiating with burial at Houston Cemetery in Alix under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

She is survived by a daughter, Janice Jones and husband William of Ozark; two sons, Michael Jones of Alix and Dale Nelson and wife Beverly of Springdale; a brother, Ivan Chapman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark.

Pallbearers will be Anthony, Chris and Alex Nelson, Jay Brice, Nate McMillan, Soski Moreno, Shawn and Seth Mainard and Gary Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy and Jimmy Harris, Johnny McCormick, Richard and Tyler Brice, Dewayne Freeman, Joe Powell and Craig Hill.
