Mr. James "Jimmie" Ackerman, age 82, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Piedmont Medical Center.
He was born September 14, 1930 in Andrews, SC, a son of the late Major Lee Ackerman and Rhoda Norton Ackerman and was the husband of Mary Ellen Gay Ackerman.
Mr. Ackerman retired from Zachary Construction Company, was a Mason, a Shriner with Hejaz Temple and a member of Springdale Baptist Church.
Mr. Ackerman is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Ackerman, a son, Ken Ackerman of Rock Hill, a daughter, Debbie Khoury of Lancaster, 2 sisters, Hazel Hegler of Lancaster and Vera Haynes and her husband Sidney of Lancaster, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer and Natalie Khoury, Brantlee and Hailey Ackerman.
Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Robert Ackerman, Thomas Ackerman, Leonard Ackerman, Lee Ackerman, Jr., Kenneth Ackerman and Ted Ackerman and 2 sisters, Joanne Ghent and Bertie Moore.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Ackerman will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 26, 2013 at The Chapel of Hartley - Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Jerry Devenny.
