William Bergener died at his home in this city Saturday morning July 26th, 1902. He was born in the village of Shullsburg Feb. 20th, 1864, where he spent his life with the exception of about two months, in the year 1883, when he conducted a meat market in LaCrosse.
He received his education at the Sisters school and the Shullsburg public school. He was jolly and full of life as a boy, and took a prominent part in all outdoor sports. Baseball was his favorite sport and for a number of years he belonged to the leading ball teams of Shullsburg.
June 20th, 1892 he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Driscoll.
For the past 19 years he has been one of Shullsburg's prominent business men, being the Junior member of the firm of Bergener Bros.
The funeral took place from the St. Matthew's Catholic church, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the Rev. Father Kinsella officiating. The remains were interred in the new Catholic cemetery near this city.
He leaves besides his wife and two children, Charles A. and Mary Adel, his aged mother Mrs. Charles Bergener, and three sisters Mrs. J.M. Byrne, Mrs. H.H. Byrne of LaCrosse, Mrs. Michael Hopes of Dubuque and one brother, Fredrick of this city, a large circle of friends who will mourn his departure from this life.
