Robert Dean Gerdes, 80, of Allison, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa.

Robert was born on August 16, 1932, in Dumont, Iowa, to Dirk and Stena (Greenfield) Gerdes. He graduated from the Dumont High School in 1951.

On March 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Darlene Jungling at the Bristow Reformed Church.

Robert was a dairy and crop farmer until 1989, and then he worked for AMPI in Fredericksburg and for Sukup Manufacturing in Sheffield. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison and served on various offices and committees in his church and throughout the community.

He enjoyed collecting lighthouses and watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Robert is survived by his wife Darlene of Allison, son Daryl and wife Catherine of Liberty, Missouri, grandchildren Levi, Noah and Natalie Gerdes of Liberty, Missouri, brother Herman and wife Donna Gerdes of Stromsburg, Nebraska, sister-in-law Margaret Gerdes of Hampton, in-laws Harry and wife Karen Jungling of Bristow and Betty and husband Eldon Siemers of Mason City, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dirk and Stena, son Douglas in 2004, brother Paul, infant brother and father and mother-in-law John and Henrietta Jungling.

Burial will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Bristow, Iowa.
