Survived by beloved husband Mark and loving sister Gloria (Cass) Ziola
Joan was born in Detroit, MI to George and Rita Gardynik. She was the last of their five children. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers George and Peter, and her sister, Georgiana Poniatowski.
She married Mark on April 18, 1980. Their life together centered around such things as travel, dining out, golfing and concerts-to name a few. Whether it was their yearly trip to Las Vegas or eating out at Doyle's, they enjoyed just being with each other. Joan had recently retired from Comerica after a long career as an Analyst of Letters of Credit. She and Mark had made plans to "go off into the sunset" in their new Camaro.
As a sister, Joan was often the force that brought her siblings together. Although she had no children, she was a wonderful aunt who was involved in many aspects of the lives of her nieces and nephews. Every baptism, graduation party, bridal/baby shower or wedding, bore her stamp in some special way. Aunt Joan would do anything for you and always with a smile.
Joan was a joy-filled person who was usually laughing, head thrown back with abandon. She had a creative streak that came out whether she was photographing clothes on a line or planting flowers in her garden. If you received a present from her, part of the gift itself was how she took care to wrap it in beautiful paper and ribbon.
In lieu of flowers, her family would ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
