Raymond "Barney" L. Baublitz, 78, of Shrewsbury Lutheran Retirement Village, formerly of Spring Grove, died Sunday morning at his home, after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of Eleanor A. (Sheffer) Baublitz, to whom he was married 50 years on April 4, 1992.

The service will be 10;30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stoverstown.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Stoverstown.

A viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The Sauter Funeral Home, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baublitz was born in Spring Grove. He was the son of the late Bert H. and Mazie A. (Yohe) Baublitz.

He had retired in 1976 from the shipping department of P.H. Glatfelter Co., where he was employed for 33 years.

He was a member of the firm's Quarter Century Club.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stoverstown.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. He had served from 1950 to 1951 as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Pvt. Allen J. Beck Jr. Post 5265.

For many years, he was a basketball referee with Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

He was vice president of the Spring Grove Half Century Graduates and was a member of Friendship Hose Co. and North Codorus Fire companies.

Mr. Baublitz also is survived by a son, Bert E. Baublitz of New Freedom; a grandson; and a sister, Gladys I. Shultz of York.

Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Ruth A. Fieldhouse.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Box 1105, Spring Grove RD 1, 17362.
