SURRY - Moses Alexander, 60, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Obici Memorial Hospital. Born June 15, 1941, in Isle of Wight County, he was a lifelong resident of Surry County. He was the son of the late Margaret Hill Alexander. Moses graduated in the class of 1959 from Luther Porter Jackson High School in Dendron. He was employed as a truck driver with Gwaltney's of Smithfield for many years. Moses loved baseball and was a member of many area teams. Mr. Alexander was also preceded in death by a brother, James W. Alexander Sr. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Joyce H. Alexander; three daughters, Yulanda A. Shivers of Smithfield, Yvette A. Copeland of Lynchburg, Rhonda G. Alexander of Surry; and one son, Leslie M. Alexander of Surry. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Vanessa and Markus Copeland, Victor and Keith Shivers, and Lesley James. Other survivors include his brother, John Lee Alexander of Smithfield; three sisters-in-law, Mae Rose Alexander of Smithfield, Evelyn H. Jones of Disputanta, and Mary H. Gibbs of Hopewell; one brother-in-law, Ivan M. Harris of Charles City; three aunts; several nephews; nieces; numerous cousins; and a host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends at the residence at 15589 White Marsh Road, Surry. Viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. today at Poole's Funeral Home, Surry. A homegoing service will be held at noon, Thursday, Feb. 21, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Surry, with the Rev. George Lyttle officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Ray Cemetery, Surry.
