Henry Schabach Chilton Times January 13, 1912

General gloom pervaded the town on Thursday when the report was heard of the death of Henry Schabach, one of Chilton's substantial citizens, which occurred at his home on Madison Street. His death was so sudden and his illness of so short a duration that but very few of his friends had learned of it, consequently the death was a great shock to his family and the community. Although he had not been in his usual robust health the past year he was not what one would call sick until Friday last when he was taken with severe pains and the family physician was called. The disease did not respond to the treatment and on Tuesday morning Dr. C.W.F. Witte of called into consultation with Dr. Bolton. The doctors advised against an operation as Mr. Schabach was not in condition to undergo one having failed rapidly since he took to the bed. The cause of his death was enlargement of the liver and other serious complications.
Henry Schabach was born in the town of Mequon, Ozaukee County, June 13, 1852. He worked on the homestead farm until 1870 when he came to Chilton as an apprentice mason to his cousin, John Dick, who was doing contract work in this city. Mr. Schabach became master of the trade in due time and continued to make his residence here, working on many of the business blocks and residences erected since then. He was a good mechanic and being saving in his habits soon acquired a comfortable home in town and a farm adjacent to it. Some five years ago he gave up contract work and turned his attention to operating his farm, though he still retained his home in town and did an occasional job of masonry to accommodate old customers and friends.
He was married to Miss Louisa Luhn on May 24, 1881. The deceased was an honest, upright man, attentive to his home and family, a devout Christian and a member of St. Mary's church and St. Joseph's society. He had no enemies and many friends all of whom mourn his untimely death.
The funeral will be held on Monday next from St. Mary's church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. He is survived by a widow, a son, William and daughter, Miss Clara. His is also survived by five brothers, Math of Chilton town, Peter of Lamartine, John of Hancock, Mich., Anton of Ashland and William of Medford, a sister, Mrs. Geo. Hupert of Mequon and step father, Nic Simon of this city who made his home with him.
