Helen Janice Gardiner, 84, of Madison, and formerly of Shenandoah, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Gardiner was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late C.H. and Lena Dovel Austin.
She lived in this area most of her life and attended Shenandoah Baptist Church.
Her husband, W.J. Gardiner, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, James J. Gardiner of Pratts, and Julian W. Gardiner of Bonita, Calif.; two brothers, Paul and Curtis Austin, both of Shenandoah; a sister, Jackie Stanley of Shenandoah; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Revs. Homer Frazier, P. Hudson Nuckols and Ronald Spencer will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
