Again has the reaper stepped in and called from among us one of the pioneers of Lafayette county, the subject of this sketch, Caleb Potwin, of Shullsburg, who departed this life at his home in that village, Saturday, Jan. 27th, 1883, in his eightieth year. This event has not been unexpected, as Mr. Potwin has been an invalid for some time, and having passed his three score years and ten, it has long been thought his recovery was extremely doubtful.
Caleb Potwin came to this county about the year 1840, and settled in Shullsburg, where he has remained ever since. During his younger days he was engaged in mining and merchandising, and we believe, was very successful.
He leaves a wife and two daughters, besides a host of friends in Shullsburg, and throughout the county, to mourn his loss. The funeral took place in Shullsburg on Tuesday. He was buried with Masonic honors.
