Thomas was the third of ten children of Catharine and John Mullen (who were born and married in Ireland and then came to America).

Thomas, married Elizabeth Hutchinson. They had ten children:
1.) John
2.) Nellie
3.) James
4.) Wilbur
5.) Joseph
6.) Edgar
7.) Clyde
8.) Katie
9.) Harrison
10.) Matilda

Died at his home on Tuesday August 13th, 1901, Mr. Thomas Mullen, aged 58 years. The deceased was a highly respected citizen having resided here for many years. Kindhearted and generous made him beloved by all that knew him. The family circle is broken, and a kind and loving father is no more.
The remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in the sad hour of affliction.
