She was born in August 1897 as Magrietha Bakker in the country village of Warffum, located in the northwestern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, daughter of the 38 years aged day-laborer IJsbrand Bakker and Magrietha Blokzijl.

On 4 June 1907 Margaretha Bakker (9 y), her father IJsbrand (49, farmer), her mother Margaretha (47), her siblings Ailke (16), Harnold [?] (13) and Eltje (6) arrived on the S.S. Noordam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. Their last place of residence in the Netherlands was Usquert [province Groningen] and their destination was Chicago, where a son-in-law [?], J. Poose [?], is residing.

In 1930 Margret (32 y, born in Holland, immigrated in 1907), her husband Egbert Scheeringa (40, Holland, immigrated in 1911), their children Jacob (9, Indiana), Ysbrand (7, Indiana), Margret (5, Indiana), Grace H (2, Indiana) and Henry J (0, Indiana) were living in Highland, Lake County, Indiana.

On 10 September 1930 Margaret Scheeringa was naturalized by a court in Indiana.

In 1940 Margret (42), her husband Egbert Scheeringa (51, farmer), their children Jacob (19, truck farm laborer), Gilbert (17, truck farm laborer), Margret (15), Grace (12), Henry (10), Elsia (8, Indiana), Bertha (6, Indiana), Harry (3, Indiana) and Walter (1, Indiana) were living at their own farm, worth $4000, at Kleinman Road in still Highland Town, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. They lived in 1935 in Highland too, but in another house.

Her husband Egbert Scheeringa died in February 1942 at the age of 52 years, very probably in Highland, Lake County, Indiana. Widow Margaret died in April 1980 at the age of 82 years in Cook County, Illinois.
