Florence Evelyn Barker, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Oakwood Cemetery.

Florence Evelyn Barker was born in Waco, Texas, to the late John Gordon Hilley and Janie Moor Hilley. Always known as "Evelyn", she was a native Wacoan, educated in local schools, and Four C Business College. As a teenager Evelyn became a member of Columbus Baptist Church. Evelyn was employed by Southwestern Drug Corp. for over 27 years as a Secretary. During World War Two, when her husband was stationed at Kelly Field, Evelyn was a Secretary at Brig. General M.F. Davis' Headquarters, at San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Phillip Barker; a daughter, Janie Carol Gillette, of Evergreen, Colorado, in 1980; sister Mary Stoermer; and brothers, Gordon and Lewis Hilley.

Evelyn is survived by her grandchildren, Lara Gillette, of Denver, Colorado, and Gene Charles Gillette, of Brooklyn, New York; nieces, Jan Hilley, of New York City, New York, Sandy Allie, of Conroe, Texas, Stephanie Stoermer, of Sacramento, California; nephews, Michael, Greg, and Gordon Hilley; and devoted and loyal caregiver, Shirley Luman.
