Venice Whiting Springmeyer
1920 - 2012
Born on the kitchen table August 23rd 1920, to James William and Beulah Child Whiting in Springville, Utah. Passed away October 28, 2012 on a real bed in Salt Lake City holding a remote for the Tennis Channel with loving family by her side.
Raised with spunk, determination and discipline in road construction camps in Utah, Idaho and Arizona, Venice approached life with incomparable, delightful, witty, generous, creative, inspiring, playful adorable and amazing energy.
Married newly commissioned and soon to be Stanford graduate, Lt. Robert Springmeyer on June 10, 1942, the same day she graduated from BYU with a degree in Drama & Modern Dance. Gave birth and life skills to Robert (Gwen), Sue Beyer (John Henry), Steven (Susan), Douglas (Debbie), and Connie Hopkins (Ted), 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and adopted son Javier Clavere.
Whether it was writing "life experience" stories, turning Evergreen Jr. High students lives around, timing ski races, presenting book reviews, forwarding emails, swimming in the South China Sea, biking the dikes in Holland, enjoying tomatoes and flowers from her garden, skiing Alta with grandkids, cheering for Highland Basketball, winning Pickle Ball championships or teaching tap dance in Desert Hot Springs, Venice was loved, praised and valued by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her husband and best friend Bob, infant son William (Baby Bill) and far too many of her dearest tennis, Val Norn, Healing Waters and Springville HS Class of ‘38 friends.
Services will be held Saturday, November 3rd 11:00 a.m. at the Parley's 3rd Ward, 2615 Stringham Ave. (2280 So.), Salt Lake City. The family will receive visitors from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services
Venice was a life-long member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully in many callings.
