Lowell was the son of John A. Addison and Stella Maye Crumley who went by her mother's maiden name Goss. Her father was a Crumley, but was not married to her mother, Sena.

Stella Maye 'Goss' and John A. Addison married the 27th of September 1919, and appear in the 1920 census as newlyweds. They were divorced by 1930 and Lowell was in the household of James K. and Margaret Addison, erroneously listed as a son. Maye was in the household with Kate Chastain as an 18 year old divorcee. She later married Audie Presswood.

Lowell married Faye and they were parents of Margaret, Judy, James and Ricky.

Lowell served his country as a Corporal in the Tennessee, 919 Field Artillery during WWII.
