In 1892 Niesen, a grocer, built a large home for his family just west of the city limits of St. Louis at Dale and Bellevue Avenues. In a modest way, he was also realtor. This was soon to change as he became one of the primary developers of what was incorporated as Richmond Heights. Being adjacent to the city limits, and only a few miles from Forest Park, great growth was spurred there by construction of the World's Fair of 1904.
