Irene L. Charles, died peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at K&K Quality Care after a lengthy illness.
Irene was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Marion, Ind., the daughter of the late Walter and Theresa (McIntosh) Weesner. She married Robert W. Charles, Sr. on (July 5, 1928?), in Greentown, Ind. Bob preceded her in death March 26, 1994.
Prior to her retirement, Irene worked in Midland retail business for many years. She took great pride in her family and especially enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren participate in sporting events when they were young. When she was able to do it, nothing made her happier than to have everyone gathered at the house so she could cook up a storm with good food and everyone's favorite desserts.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Sue (Dan) Broughton; son, Robert (Kathleen) Charles Jr.; grandchildren, Tracy Law and Scott Law, Michele (Jack) Ebersole, Robert (Nicki) Charles III, Jeremy (Jaimie) Charles, and Megan Charles; two step-grandchildren, Dan (Carrie) Broughton Jr, and Steven Broughton; six great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ruth Weesner of Upland, Calif., Mary Weesner and Phyllis Weesner of Marion, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Walter "Bud" Jr., Lowell, Russell and Everett Weesner; sisters, Mary Jacobs and Wilma (infant); brother-in-law, William Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Hilma Dalrymple-Weesner-McGreath.
Arrangements are entrusted to Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly. Per Irene's wishes, a private family service will be held at Chapel Hill Mausoleum, Freeland, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010.
