Funeral services for Mildred Zimmerman, 94, were held on Monday, December 24, at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Verndale. Mildred passed away on December 21, 2012, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. Prior to entering the nursing home in 2010, she was a resident of Bertha.

Mildred was born on June 24, 1918, to William and Lottie Jane Miller in Woodside Township. She attended District 173 country school, and worked for the Aldrich family as a sales clerk at the Wrightstown Store.

Mildred was united in marriage to Franklin Zimmerman on April 4, 1944, at the Nazarene parsonage in Hewitt. Through the years they lived and farmed in the Hewitt, Bertha and Eagle Bend areas. In 1989, they sold their Eagle Bend farm and moved to Bertha. Mildred and Franklin celebrated 55 years of marriage in the spring of 1999, and Franklin passed away later that year.

Mildred was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Linda and Dennis. She was subsequently blessed with five grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Mildred lived a life of humbly serving others. She was an excellent cook and many were the fortunate recipients of a meal in her home or some goodies she wanted to share. Attending church and volunteering her time there were of greatest importance to her.

Preceding Mildred in death were her husband, Franklin; grandson, Adam Van Batavia; and her siblings, Gerald Miller, Eleanora Esteb and Russell Miller.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Robert) Van Batavia of Verndale and Dennis (Konnie) Zimmerman of Bertha; grandchildren Chad and Paul (Amy) Zimmerman, Jason (Naomi) and Aaron (Stacy) Van Batavia; her great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Louise Miller of Stillwater and Violet Clauson of Emmett, Idaho; along with many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chad and Paul Zimmerman, Jason and Aaron Van Batavia, Wayne Voge and Donald Leyh.

Burial was at Woodside Cemetery in Woodside Township.
