Mrs. Annie Prescott (Duff) Forrest

There passed away this morning, in the old house at 22 Tobin street which as long as it stands will be associated in the minds of the public with the name she bore, Annie Prescott, wife of the late Rev. Dr. John Forrest, for many years president of Dalhousie University, and as such uniquely influential and beloved - no president of a university ever enjoyed the devotion in fuller measure of the student body.

Mrs. Forrest, who was 82 years of age, had been very visibly failing for the past six months or more, and the end, when it came was not unexpected. The daughter of the late Rev. William Duff, an able and revered minister of the Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, N.S. and Jean Fairbanks, his wife, she had spent by far the larger part of her life in this city. Mrs. Forrest's was essential the lovely spirit which illuminates that home which it blesses - far afield, many men, alumni of Dalhousie, will when the learn of her death, feel a deep sense of personal, intimate loss.

She was practically a life-long member of the congregation of Fort Massey Church, and was most helpful n the life and work of its various societies. Shew as a member of the Board of Management of the YWCA, a member of the Board of Management of the Infants Home, and also of the Board of the Old "Girl's Home".

There survive to mourn an inexpressible loss five children, a daughter, Jean, whose devotion to her mother has been exemplary, and four sons, Dr. W.D. Forrest, whose manly strength has surrounded his mother since his father's death with an affection which was her mainstay; Archibald, in Rye, New York; George in New York , and John Prescott, in New Jersey. Two sisters, the Misses Margaret and Isabel Duff, of Lunenburg also survive, and arrived in the city last evening, called by the grievous fact of her extreme condition. Her sons in New York and New Jersey are now en route to the city, the family being one whose devotion to one another is signal. Due notice of the funeral will be given - the time will be determined by that of the arrival of the Messrs. Forrest in Halifax.
