Duane Hamann, 71, of rural Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in the comfort of his home on the family farm while under the care of Allen Hospice.

Duane's wishes were for cremation and a private family service. Memorials may be directed to the Gladbrook Fire Department, Gladbrook-Lincoln Ambulance Service, Gladbrook Peace United Church of Christ or Allen Hospice.

Duane Allen Hamann was born in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Herbert and Mildred (Schmidt) Hamann. Duane attended school in the Gladbrook Community School District graduating with the Class of 1959. On October 19, 1963, Duane was united in marriage to Susan Scott in Lincoln, Iowa. Duane and Susan lived and farmed in rural Gladbrook their entire married lives. Duane was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook and past member of the Gladbrook Jaycees, Gladbrook Lions Club and Tama County Pork Producers. When Duane wasn't busy farming he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially his fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota but his family always wondered if it was the fishing or the great friends he went with. Duane also enjoyed restoration of old tractors and cars.

Left to cherish his memory: Susan, his wife of 49 years; daughters: Angela (Mark) Knaack of Gladbrook; Pamela Fogt (Jason Meyers) of Grundy Center; grandchildren: Zachery Knaack, Katelyn Knaack, Alexyss Fogt and Carter Fogt; special friends: Rachel Schott, Andrew Raska and Blake Keys; sister-in-laws: Debra Harre and Trudi Scott and her son Andrew Scott; sister Phyllis Tegtmeier of Cedar Falls; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends and a special grand-dog Drake.

In death Duane rejoins: his parents Herbert and Mildred; infant son Duane Allen, Jr. and sisters Karlene Jordt and Joleen in infancy.
