His mother's obituary states that she lost her son a month before her death in August 1888. With all the other sons accounted for in later years with the exception of Robert, the son she lost must have been Robert L. Burke.

Newspaper articles were viewed, but nothing found showing the exact date of Robert's death.

Survey listings of the cemetery dating back to 1940's have never shown he had an inscribed marker. His parents were buried in this same cemetery without inscribed markers on their graves. Many mountain rocks and sandstones marked numerous graves in the old Tillison graveyard.

Cemetery committee placed a marker for Robert prior to decoration day, May 17, 2014. Robert's marker is alongside his parents, F.M. and Eliza Burke. An Etowah County grant was provided to Tillison Cemetery to purchase grave markers.
