Robert, son of John and Rhoda Alexander, was born in Brown county, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1822, and died March 24, 1897, aged 74 years, 5 months and 1 day.
He was the oldest of nine children, six brothers and three sisters. Three brothers and one sister survive him. He came with his parents to Warren in 1841, when this country was yet a wilderness. He was married to Mary A. Jones in 1846, and to their union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters. A companion, two sons and one daughter preceded him to the better land.He united with the Methodist Protestant church over thirty years ago and lived a consistent christian until death. While able to go his seat was seldom vacant in church. He was chosen to fill different positions of trust in connection with the church. His house was always a home for itinerate ministers. In former years, while yet in health, many were days and nights he spent in caring for the sick in his neighborhood.
By his death the children have lost a kind and loving father, the church a faithful member and the community a peaceful citizen.
Funeral services were held at Union chapel, conducted by Rev. I.M. Tharp, assisted by Rev. Bundy, and the remains were laid to rest in the Batson cemetery by the side of the companion of his youth.
