Joseph Pickens Harris, Jr., 7th child of Joseph Pickens and Ann Thompson Harris, Sr., was born February 26, 1841 and died December 19, 1905. He was a triplet.

He was great grandson of Generals Andrew Pickens and Robert Anderson of Revolutionary fame. He enlisted in the Confederate Army, Orr's Reg. Co. D. at the age of 20 and fought through the war till the Southern cause went down to defeat at Appomattox Court House April 6, 1865. He was a valiant solider and was severely wounded in a charge at Fredericksburg. He was as true to the principles of the South as he could be. He was well educated and became a Dentist, practicing his profession in South Carolina and later in Linden, Texas. He was the first Dentist Linden ever had.

On May 7, 1874 he married Mary Story Reese. They resided near Townville, South Carolina on the old place of his forefathers till 1894 when he moved to Texas.

In Oct. 1891, he united with the M. E. Church and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a true gentleman and was generous to a fault, no hungry person was ever turned away from his door; he was quick to answer the call of distress, if it was in his power.

Eleven children blessed this couple: Robert Andrew, Mary Caroline "Mamie", Augusta, Annie Walker, Ruth Maria, Joseph Pickens, Milton Reese, Floride Kathleen, Edward Bissell, John Anderson "Jack" and Rebecca Calhoun "Callie".
