JOHN BURCH
CADWELL, April 8. --- John Burch, one of the oldest and best known residents of Laurens county, died at his home here Saturday evening at 7 o'clock. His death was not unexpected as he had been in failing health for some time, due to cancer in the head.
Mr. Burch was 73 years of age and leves a wife and seven children, the later being H. C., A. E., J. A. and Smith Burch, and Mrs. V. J. Taylor, Mrs. J. O. Foster and Miss Lola Burch. He had resided all his life in this county and was one of the first citizens of Laurens to enlist during the war between the states. He ws a member of the Missionary Baptist church and a prominent Mason,
The funeral was held at the Cadwell Baptist Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock, the service being conducted by his former pastor, Rev. J, M. Henderson, of Hawkinsville. The interment was in the Cadwell cemetery, the Masons officiating at the grave.

Burch, John ---- Private Mch 4, 1862. Pension records show he was wounded through thigh and permanent disabled at 2d Manassas, Va. Aug. 29, 1862, and was on detail duty, ccount of wounds, from 1862, to close of war. (born in Ga. in 1844).
