From a history found @ familysearch.org:
Emma is the second of nine children born to Martin Lewis Dainy Bird and Emma Gardner. Her older sister, Mary Ann, died before her first birthday, so Emma grew up the eldest child of the family.
In 1876 Martin and the family were called to go to Southern Utah to help establish living the United Order in St. George. There were four children and the trip was hard. In the end it didn't work out, so the family went back to Mendon, minus a child, John Charles was kicked by a horse on the way.
The family moved to Teton, Idaho and there Emma met Charles Henry Brown. They married on December 30, 1885. They made their home in Teton and became parents to five children: Martin Lewis, Irma Sadilla, Norma Eliza, Lester Charles, and Hyrum Thomas.
In 1906 Charles and Emma moved their family to Alberta, Canada. They homesteaded land there and worked it for three years. On May 26, 1909 Charles was kicked by a horse and died. Emma sold the land in Canada and in November 1911 she moved the family back to Teton, Idaho.
On September 4, 1913, Emma married John Perry Carter. He died July 9, 1917 from dropsy and asthma. In April 1918, Emma's son, Lester Charles, fell on a pitchfork and died.
Emma died from liver cancer.
