He died running to a fire after dark when he fell over a precipice, probably in Allegheny City, now a part of Pittsburgh. He had gone there for the wedding of his daughter, Nancy Elizabeth, which took place a little more than a month after his death.
His wife died at the home of his daughter, Nancy Elizabeth McNeil Cochran, 4 Sep 1879 in Carroll Twp., Tama County, Iowa, but I have not found her grave. I don't know if she was buried there or returned to Pennsylvania.
When I was at the Union Dale Cemetery office, they had a record of his burial, but I could not find a tombstone.
