Roger Skiles
Lifelong Escalon resident Roger Wayne Skiles, 70, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28 in Modesto after a lengthy illness and recent decline in health.
Mr. Skiles was born in French Camp, California on March 27, 1939. He was the oldest child of Wayne (Andy) and Floy (Trager) Skiles. He attended school in Escalon and graduated from Escalon High School in 1957. After high school he began a lifelong career as a mechanic, working on cars and trucks in shops in Modesto and Stockton and later becoming a shop foreman.
Mr. Skiles became involved in Boy Scouts, serving as Cub Master and Scoutmaster of Troop 415 in Escalon. He also coached Little League Baseball for several years.
He was an outdoorsman and spent many hunting seasons in the mountains. He was also an avid fisherman and spent much time on local lakes fishing for trout and deep-sea fishing for salmon out of Bodega Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne (Andy) and Floy Skiles.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
