Mary Marie (Phillips) Shurr, 93, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 peacefully at home. Mary was born August 29, 1919 in Valparaiso, Indiana, the daughter of Clayton & Alma (Harms) Phillips.
On November 16, 1942, she married Emerson "Bud" Shurr in Boone Grove, Indiana.
She worked in the Ammunition Plant in Kingsbury, IN, J.C. Penney and Shurr Insurance Agency in Valparaiso. She was a member of the Boone Grove Christian Church, the Esther Women's Circle, Porter County Extension Homemakers, Porter Cross Roads Community and Conservation Clubs. She enjoyed gardening, riding the lawn mower, her farm cats, crocheting, and flying the flag.
Surviving are her three children: Judith (David) Ewen of San Diego, CA, Carol (Evan) Landgrebe and Larry (Marilyn) Shurr of Valparaiso, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Harley Phillips, 2 sisters: Helen (Thomas) Pappas and MaryEllen Pritchard, 2 sisters-in-law: Wanda (Hagberg) Phillips and Verna Ruth (Shurr) Kyle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 5 brothers: Harold, Claude, Bernard, John & James Phillips and grandson, Eric Landgrebe.
Mary will be greatly missed.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday, January 12, 2013, 11:00 am at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service Saturday from 9 – 11 am. Memorials may be made to the family in her memory.
