Eugene Evans Elmore, born 30 June 1900 in Americus, Ga., graduated from the Naval Academy in 1922, and served in a number of ships as well as ashore before reporting 25 October 1940 to Quincy (CA 39). Lieutenant Commander Elmore was killed in action when his ship was sunk 9 August 1942 in the Battle of Savo Island. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.

Eugene Elmore was the son of Eugene Everette Elmore and his wife, Lillie Belle Evans

ELMORE-LINK Miss Marie Link, of York, and former music student at Susquehanna University, was married to Ensign Eugene Evans Elmore, of Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Elmore will be remembered by many Selinsgrove people for her beautiful soprano voice, having been a member of Trinity Lutheran choir while attending Susquehanna University. She later sang for radio concerts at Atlanta, Ga.
