He was born in Adair County, Ky., to Cautis and Zilpha (Pendleton) Dehart [sic: DeHart] of Knifley, Ky.
Garnett loved animals and nature and spent much of his life outdoors hunting ginseng and adopting cats. As a young man in Kentucky, he had attended Purdy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ann (Dehart) [sic: DeHart] Walker of Ottawa and Wanda (Dehart) [sic: DeHart] Neurohr of Marseilles; and many cousins, nieces and nephews from Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.
