He is the much loved father of Gerald and Jane Hofstetter, Mary Ella (late Bill 2010) Pettigrew, Ferne and Donald Woolcott, Richard and Sheila Hofstetter, Cecil and Cathy Hofstetter, Laurie and Clare Robinson and stepfather of Jim and Jane Bell, Ross and Kathy Bell, Pat and Gord Hall, and Bruce and Lynn Bell. Survived by his brothers, Harry, Layton (Helen), Reid (Eva), sister Jean Ross, and sisters-in-law Ivy Musselman and Dorothy Shantz. Predeceased by his wives Reta (Wanner) (1987) and Margaret (Bell) (2010) and by his brothers and sisters, Harold, Ruby, Floyd, Earl, Marjorie, Helen, and Glenn. John was born on the farm outside of Plattsville where he lived, farmed, and retired until he moved to Woodstock in 2010. His family, church and community were his greatest pleasures. He was a member of Grace United Church, Roseville where he attended faithfully. His involvement in both the local and provincial plowing matches provided much pride and pleasure. He was an honorary director of the Ontario Plowmen's Association. The Plattsville Masonic Lodge No. 178 and the Thames Valley Chapter No. 199 Order of the Eastern Star played a vital role in John's life. He served his community through his involvement in many organizations and on municipal government with the Blenheim Township and Oxford County councils. Friends and family are invited to visit with John's family at the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William Street, Plattsville, on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. A Service of Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Peace United Church, Plattsville.
