Aged Woman Dies Leaving Four Generations
Taylorville, Feb. 23 -- Mrs. Naomi Fleming, aged 89 years, died at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the residence of her son, Jeff Fleming, in this city, on the 71st anniversary of her marriage. Naomi Van Winkle was born Sept. 2, 1820, in Shelby county, Ill. She moved to Fayette county with her parents when nine years of age and at the age of 18 was married to Willis Fleming. They came to Christian county in 1856, settling in Johnston township. Mr. Fleming died in 1858 (not correct) and Mrs. Fleming has since made her home with her children. Fifteen children were born to the couple, nine of whom are still living, viz: Enoch Fleming of Johnson township; John Fleming of Oklahome City; Daniel and Jeff Fleming of Taylorville; Mrs. W. H. Raibourne of Johnson township; Mrs. E L Lemaster of Taylorville and Mrs. Thomas Bivans of Decatur. One sister, Mrs. Thomas Casad of El Paso, Tex., 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild are also surviving. The funeral services will be held Thursday at the Mound Chapel, south of Taylorville at the Mound Chapel cemetery.
