Donald Necollins, 18 of Platteville, was being held in connection with the slaying of Dianne Coulthard, one of six children of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Coulthard of Belmont, whom Necollins was babysitting.
The body of the girl was found by her parents when they returned home about midnight.
Sheriff Edward Thompson said Necollins told him he shot the girl in the chest with a .22 caliber pistol after she called him names. The weapon had been kept in a bedroom in the home.
Thompson said the boys family had been former neighbors of the Coulthard's and he had stayed with the children many times in the past.
