Alfred Augustus Bynon was the son of George Bynon and Jane Pickens Briggs. He married Adelaide M. Collins on August 14, 1850. She was born June 16, 1831 and died March 11, 1853 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of Maria (Love) Collins. Alfred and Adelaide had two children:

On January 30, 1854 Alfred married Marcella Struensa Savonna Rand in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada. Alfred and Marcella had nine children:

Alfred was a newspaperman and printer and, with his son Frederick Silas Bynon, he founded the "Hollywood Sentinel"(California) in about 1899.
In 1903 the First Baptist Church of Hollywood, California was founded in the home of Alfred and Marcella Bynon. They had also been, along with several family members, charter members the First Baptist Church in Alameda, California in 1878.
