Son of Reuben Haight and brother to Jonathan and Samuel Haight. Came to Michigan between 1832 and 1838.

In the early 1850's he worked as a carpenter and was hired by Jacob Staus to build the first frame house in Woodland. For many years he made very durable black walnut coffins.

In 1861 he married Mary M. George in Odessa Twp.

He served in the Civil War with Company E 3rd Michigan Infantry (2nd organization).

In 1888, Stephen Haight and George Week established a funeral home in Lake Odessa.
