MRS. LIVAUDAIS, 96, TAUGHT MUSIC, EX-CHURCH ORGANIST
Funeral services are to be held Thursday in Monroe, Louisiana, for Mrs. Fannie Catherine Livaudais, 96, a retired music teacher who died Sunday at her home, 6511 20th Avenue, Hyattsville, Maryland. Born on a Louisiana plantation in 1864, Mrs. Livaudais had lived in the Washington, D. C. area since 1930. She lived with her daughter, Mrs. Undine Livaudais FitzGerald, a teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School in the District.

Mrs. Livaudais became a music teacher in 1904, when the death of her husband left her with four children to care for. One of the few church organists in Monroe, Louisiana, she she served as organist for a Catholic Church, a Protestant Church and a Jewish synagogue for 26 years. The church schedule were adjusted to allow her to play at each one each week, he daughter, Undine Livaudais Fitzgerald, recalled.

Mrs. Livaudais attended school in Natchez, Mississippi, and was graduated from Whitworth College, Brookhaven, Mississippi, in 1885. While still in college, she composed a waltz named "The Excursion Waltz," which was published privately by a nephew last year. The song dealt with her trips on the Mississippi River excursion boats.

After coming to Washington, D. C., Mrs. Livaudais gave up teaching, but retained her interest in music. She was a charter member of the Washington Music Teachers Association and continued regular practice on the piano until recently. Mrs. Livaudais was a member of the women's sodality of St. John Baptist De La Salle Church, Sargent Road, Chillum, Maryland.

Mrs. Livaudais is survived by four children:
Undine Livaudais FitzGerald of Hyattsville, Maryland
Catherine Livaudais of Monroe, Louisiana
Howard Livaudais of Alexandria, Louisiana
Alice Livaudais (Mrs. Bishop N. Pipes) of Monroe, Louisiana
Three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Mrs. Livaudais' body was transferred to Monroe, Louisiana this morning for burial at her old parish church.
