Curtis served in Civil War - enlisted July 15, 1861, Canton, Missouri, Company E, 21st Missouri Infantry. He was discharged January 26, 1864, Cumberland, Maryland, due to disability. He was blind resulting from smallpox contracted in 1862.

Curtis married Elizabeth Giffen in 1864, Belmont Ohio. He was a fisherman.

He was admitted to the U. S. National Home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Dayton, Ohio in 1903.

Undetermined who his parents are but soldiers home record gives name John W. Neville as brother in Benwood, Marshall County, WV. And a nephew Joseph Cromey Neville, Norwalk, Ohio. (son of Amor/Amos B. Neville and Esther/Hester Ann VanKirk)
