After he married Alice Grove in 1905 he lived in Washington DC on L St. not very far from where he was raised until the work ran out. He moved his family to Pittsburgh in 1912 and they lived in the area where the civic arena stands today. In 1921 the family moved to Detroit Michigan, 1305 W. Hancock, Ave to find work and help organize for the unions in Michigan. After 7 or 8 months when the work ran out in Detroit, or was no longer what he wanted, he moved back to Pittsburgh, Pa. and stayed there until he died. It appears that he fought for better wage's and a better way of life for himself and family. Having paid $10,000 to purchase a large home on Jacksonia St. in 1922 is a testament of his success.
He was a member of Saint Peters Catholic Church on Pittsburgh's North Side and rarely missed Mass.
Alcohol was his down fall. He was a binge drinker.That is to say, he would go for months without touching a drop, but once he did start to drink he would stay drunk for weeks at a time. They called it a "Toot" He was on a "Toot" when he died. From what I have been told he got pneumonia while he was on a drunk and when he went to the hospital he was to weak to recover and died.
