CLARENDON

The funeral of Lemuel H. Merrill, who died the 18th inst., was held at his late residence last Sunday at 10 a.m., Rev. J. W. Lawton officiating. The interment was at the Root cemetery. Mr. Merrill had been in poor health for the past year but had not been confined to the house for any length of time. The immediate cause of death was paralysis. He was born in Bergen in August, 1816, and had lived in the town of Clarendon nearly sixty years. He leaves besides his wife, nine children: Captain A. H. Merrill, U.S.A., David's Island, N.Y.H.; Mrs. Amy Brown, of Byron; Dr. A. C. Merrill, of Harbor Springs, Mich.; Mrs. A. E. Moore, of Byron; L. H. Merrill, Clarendon; Mrs. Florence Moore, Holley; Miss E. U. Merrill, Clarendon; Norton Merrill, Chicago; Mrs. Lydia Lawton, Clarendon; and also one brother, N. R. Merrill, of Clarendon. It was fortunate that all of the children were able to be present, as this is the first time they have all been together in over thirty years.
